Kristina Murrell, the new Caribbean Queen of R&B, releases Beautiful Disaster, the follow-up to her award-winning debut Passion & Pain on Friday July 27th in time to kick off the summer. Arriving via Music for Love International, a Greensboro, NC charity and record label – the 12 song album leans into Murrell’s island heritage with a mix of R&B ballads, afrobeat laced groovers, and island tinged pop in the title track.
Kristina Murrell’s award winning debut album Passion & Pain was a combination of genres and sonic aesthetics, a mix of Pop and R&B driven by personality and innovation which continues on her sophomore release. Although she receives creative inspiration from a number of artists such as fellow Barbados born superstar Rihanna, Kristina combines a variety of stylistic elements to form a sound all her own.
Passion & Pain went #1 on the itunes chart in her native Barbados, earned Murrell the Bronze Award at the Global Music Awards in “Vocal Performance and R&B” while her single “Stronger” received a nomination in Best R&B/Soul/Funk from the Hollywood Music and Media Awards. Murrell and her producer and sometime duet partner Sonny King also won the USA Songwriting Competition (R&B) for the slinky “Got Me Dreaming”.
Beautiful Disaster explores relationship themes like her debut, yet this new offering celebrates the lightness of being as when the old gives way to the new. From the grooving and pleading of “Body” to the confident female swagger of “She Could Never” on to the new love possibility of the album closer “Run It Back” and the disco-fied title track “Beautiful Disaster”, Kristina proves she’s got staying power.
